Unboxing Is The Worst! ...Or Maybe The Best?
Unboxing videos are weird. They tend to be of low quality, focus on minuscule packaging details, and spend a lot of time staring at common things like manuals and chargers.
And yet, they're unbelievably popular.
I can't stand unboxing videos. But others, like my friend Stevie love them, search for them, and even make them. Why? Well, an article from The Dublin Review highlights qualities of unboxing videos that help us understand-- what do unboxing videos make people feel? How do a disembodied voice and hands make people more intrigued and feel they're a part of the experience?
What does point-of-view porn have to do anything?
Sassibob and I discuss these questions and unravel the mythos of the unboxing video.
