Understanding the Biblical Concept of Tithing: More Than Just Money?
We are commanded to tithe 10% to God, but what does that truly mean? I used to think, that by getting into short term hook-ups, that we were just doing each other a favor by helping each other take our mind off the stresses of life. However in reality it caused more stress than it ever aleviated. I used to think, that by doing volunteer work, or forced saturday sabbath observance, or even mission work, was giving to God. The truth is, we are only giving to God when we are giving with the proper intent. If our intent be selfish, then we are giving to self (Flesh) but if our intent is pure, then we are giving to God (Spirit). Give yourself the time and freedom to do something that makes you feel like a kid again, in that truth, there is liberty.
And it doesnt have to be be 10%, but it should be at least 10%, which is to say, it doesnt take much, only a mustard seed of faith to have all our spiritual needs met. And when our spiritual needs are met, we are free to take better care of our physical needs. We can give more then 10% if we want, as long as we give from a place of gratitude. Another way to look a it, is to take some time throughout your day to care for your inner child, when she cries, feed her and tend to her needs (tithing), and give some extra attention when you can (offerings) as a Good parent will. And then Enjoy the life that the Child grows into, as she gives back in ways beyond what we can ask or imagine...
Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.
There is spiritual tithing and physical tithing. Many times the two go hand in hand but sometimes (like the pharisees, profess God but their heart is far from him) So, Give to God what is God's (spiritual tithing) and Caeser what is Caeser's (physical tithing)
Heb 7:1-17 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace; Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God; abideth a priest continually.
This is what it means to dedicate the firstborne unto God. It is swearing it oath of inner self relization of truth, commiting to serving the life of the child within (Judges 11:30-40). We raise our inner child and then deliver it up as an offering to God as a spotless lamb for the Pass-Over. We put our inner child through alot of hell, and shes the last part of us left with any goodness. To give over our inner child is to completely surrender to spirit, mind body and soul, at the time of the Cross, between life and death. Let what is remembered at the end, be the Greatest thing you can look upon, and be comforted to know, that's where you are, In Paradise...
