In this Fix It Friday video I take a look at a Sony PlayStation 1 that I bought on eBay and install an XStation Optical Drive Emulator. Instead of relying on ageing disc drives, the XStation allows you to run your legally owned games directly from an SD card. I show the full process from opening the console and identifying the correct motherboard, to fitting the quick solder board, wiring, and installing the XStation kit.
You will see the step by step installation, some of the challenges involved, and the final results once the console is reassembled and powered on. This guide should help if you are considering carrying out the same upgrade on your own PlayStation 1.
