Shortly after doing the video talking about my PS4 I decided to go ahead with the SSD upgrade. The 500GB HDD is too cramped and the speed boost will be a nice bonus. I bought a 1TB WD Blue SSD for apx $129 CAD (~$99 USD) and immediately looked into the procedures for backing up and installing the PS4 system software. I have to say Sony did a good job making this swap as easy as possible. After doing a backup to my 1TB external USB HDD I went over to my PC and downloaded the PS4 software installer from the Playstation website and put it on a FAT32 formatted USB stick. With the new SSD inside the PS4, a DS4 controller plugged into one USB port and the USB stick in the other you can proceed. Power up the PS4 into safe mode by holding the power button down until it beeps a second time. The safe mode menu will allow you to install the PS4 software onto the new SSD. Once the PS4 resets it will be like a freshly powered new PS4. Proceed through the initial setup screens and get into the dashboard menu. Finally we can restore everything from the external 1TB external USB HDD back to the new SSD install. Now the PS4 is acting just like I left it. All my settings, logins, game installs and save backups are all in place just like when we started. Except of course I now have 1TB of storage and faster load times!

I've already been playing my PS4 more having now installed Gran Turismo Sport (100+ GB after updates etc) and beating Uncharted 3 (from the Uncharted collection for PS4) for the first time. The load times as we've seen in FFVII remake have improved apx %35 and are even more impressive while playing Uncharted 3 as it's literally loading in just a few seconds! I remember playing these games on PS3 and the load times were easily a full minute or more! Very impressive. I think there's still a lot of use to be gotten out of the old PS4 yet!
