Scientists at Virginia Tech have discovered an innovative method for upscaling used plastics, transforming them into valuable surfactants.
This method is effective on polyethylene and polypropylene - the two most prevalent plastic types. Both of these plastics constitute nearly 50% of the total plastic waste out of the nearly 200 million tons produced annually.
What's more, over 80% of plastic waste ends up in landfills, with less than 10% being recycled.
