Breath of Possibility: NASA's Quest for Oxygen on Mars π¬
Scientists installed MOXIE (Mars Oxygen In-Situ Resource Utilization Experiment) into the Perseverance Rover, which was sent on an astrobiology mission in 2021. The instrument isolates oxygen from Mars' predominantly carbon dioxide atmosphere.
After 16 cycles of oxygen extraction, the device generated approximately 0.27 pounds of oxygen, enough to provide a small dog with breathable air for 10 hours.
MOXIE's successful mission served as the first-ever demonstration of technology that humans could use to survive on, and eventually leave, the Red Planet.
From October 24-26, find out more about space exploration and commercialization at FII7 in Riyadh: https://fii-institute.org/conference/...
