If you've only played DOS games on modern disk drives and SSDs, you may not know that many DOS games have disk access indicators, because old HDDs used to be quite slow. Sometimes it's just a single pixel in the corner that flashes, others it's a big icon, the most well known one being the blue disk icon in Doom.
