V-Rally - Multiplayer Championship Edition / Need For Speed: V-Rally (1999) - Every PC Rally Game
V-Rally - Multiplayer Championship Edition / Need For Speed: V-Rally / V-Rally Edition 99 by Infogrames / Electronic Arts, 1999.
This was the first semi-serious rally title on the PlayStation. the PC port eventually appeared a couple of years later in 1999. A note about the name: in many places it was called "V-Rally - Multiplayer Championship Edition" (hyping up that feature). I also found a copy from Europe where it was called "V-Rally Edition 99", not to be confused with the N64 title of the same name (it's identical to the standard PC version).
Finally, in the US, V-Rally was branded as a "Need For Speed" title, despite being totally unrelated!
In these clips, I've mostly used the nGlide 3Dfx wrapper, as it allows FXAA (standard anti-aliasing through dgVoodoo2 causes breakup on the road ahead). I used the Direct3D version for the night-time stage though, as it's too dark/black on the 3Dfx version (compared to the PlayStation original), plus the headlight effects are pretty broken with both Glide wrappers.
Overall, it's always been a bit of a wonky game, with paper-light handling (especially if you crash!). Something of an acquired taste, especially as it released after Colin McRae Rally on the PC!
