I think Pinker Quoting Elias was saying Ww2 and 20th century violence doesn't compare to hunter gatherer violence, thus I guess justifying Euro expansion as human nature: like tribes would on each other anyways. Which is pretty bad, even with it having a cold logic, it's emotionally reductionist historically with "Manifest Destiny".
