In order to break the Seal of the Abyss, you first have to unlock the Abyss level by breaking the Seal of the Lake in Lake Foscari. Once you have done that, it is pretty simple to break the next Seal.

Choose Maruto Cuts and enter Abyss Foscari. Max out his starting weapon (Eskizzibur), and ALSO max out the Armor item. Once this is done, grabbing a chest from a mini-boss will evolve the weapon into Legionnaire.

With Legionnaire in hand, head to the Seal, which can be found by following the starting point to the east, then south all the way, west across either "bridge", and then when you hit a wall of shadow, head north, where the Seal will be waiting.

Once at the Seal, just stand near it, and allow Maruto Cuts to keep attacking it. It will eventually break, and you will unlock more of the map!
