I think I might have developed some trust issues from playing this.

Once you send your units to guard the NPCs, there will be axe fighters appearing near the escape point instead of the "more wyverns will appear at north and southwest" mentioned the enemy boss. Then a few turns later, some cavalry will appear at the northeast, once again, nothing like what the boss says at all.
Once you are done with them, you will receive the rare item after your objective escapes. Not sure what the item was, but if anyone knows what it is please leave a comment.
I was so annoyed here that I forgot to test whether the escape point is a secret shop. Oh well.
