Voice Leading Lesson - Cinematic Strings Tutorial E01 in Bitwig Studio:
In music theory, when we spread the chords like this it's called Open Voicing. If we leave the notes close together in a chord it's called...Closed Voicing, and has a more dense sound which can lead to a muddy mix if you are not careful.
Take any chord progression, apply this voice leading lesson technique and you are good to go!
This "note spread" technique with voice leading is useful for every music style, may it be EDM, Orchestral, Rock, Pop (your favourite genre here...)
I think this is one of the most important techniques to learn in order to get a more full and professional sound.
With voice leading you to clear up your orchestral arrangement. It's very easy to just program in some chords from the web (if you're a modern producer and not a piano player)... and call it a day. Don't stop there.
* Go over the chords and see what notes are common and can lead into the next chord.
* With this technique, your chord progressions will sound more natural.
In the tutorial, we work in Bitwig Studio with the Cinematic Strings Sample Library. It is my favourite string library for sketching out orchestral cinematic tracks for games and film.
