Volume - Level 57: Watchful Eye (no sightings, no alarms)
So, I recently finished playing through Mike Bithell's game "Volume". My three-words-and-a-smiley review: "I liked it. =)"
Anyway, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, Volume is kind of a combination of a stealth game and a speedrunning game: it's basically a stealth game, but the leaderboard rankings are based on how quickly you complete a level, so sometimes breaking stealth, getting spotted, and using evasion tactics instead can actually get you a better time/ranking.
Of course, me being me, I was kind of curious to see if it was actually possible to make it through the entire game without being spotted even once. ^^ So as I progressed through the game, I actually played each level looking for solutions where the enemies never saw Rob at all... and then later, when alarms were introduced, solutions where alarms were never triggered either (by Rob or by enemies).
For anybody who's curious, it looks like a "no sightings, no alarms" solution is possible for nearly every level... but not quite all of them. Out of 100 levels, I was unable to figure out a "no sightings, no alarms" solution for only 6 of them: Levels 65 (Those that Justice Failed), 66 (Arms Chase), 80 (Addressing the Nation), 90 (Keeping Watch in the Night), 96 (Ladies in Waiting), and 98 (The Heart). If any of you can figure out a way to "no sightings, no alarms" any of those, I'd definitely be interested! ^^
Anyway, some of the "no sightings, no alarms" solutions took longer than others to figure out, so I decided to record some of them, both for my own benefit (in case I ever forget how I solved the level!)... and for yours (whether you're trying to figure out a level, or just want to see if I solved it differently than you did). Enjoy! =)
- Level 57: Watchful Eye (no sightings, no alarms)
Figuring out a "no sightings" way past the two turrets just before the second key... took a while to figure out. I'm still not sure if there's some randomness in how the distracted turret acts, but sending the Figment like this seemed to get pretty good results. ^^
As far as the last turret... I'm pretty sure it's possible to get past it by using the Figment (distract it, then get to the bottom area, then distract it again, and get to the exit)... but because turrets can't turn completely around, you can just... do something that's a lot simpler and more amusing. =)
