At the time of recording, there are only two types of signals in the game:
- Regular Signals, also know as Block Signals
- Pre-Signals, also known as Chain Signals
If more signals will be introduced, I'll make an updated video and link to it here.
I tried to cover both the basic usage of regular and pre-signals as well as give examples of what to do, and how to avoid issues you might run into. As I said in the video, there are two reasons for using signals:
- Allowing more than one train in your railway system
- Forcing trains to take certain paths
Most of the time, a combination of the two.
Because I did the initial designs with minor design flaws on purpose, I forgot to fix all of them completely before moving on with the recording. But it shows also how easy it is to make mistakes, even if you know what you're doing. It only takes one incorrectly placed signal to lock the entire system. Most of the time you will only jam the system, but in worst case you might cause collisions!
