You use a trackball and a button to find Wally in a number of different ways (catching him in an animation, finding him in a door, finding him with only a small portion of the screen visible at a time).

The game has 11 stages divide with different themes, those are divided in 4 type of minigames, in 3 of them you need to find Waldo, in the fourth one you need to spot the difference between two images (2 differences in later stages), everytime you find waldo, you get an ice cream as reward.

After the regular stages are over a bonus stage will be played, if you succeed you get a cake as reward, the better you do the bigger it will be.

After every stage you recover life (called timer) based on how many ice cream you collected in the previous stage and if you winned the cake in bonus stage.

Picking the wrong waldo will make you lose life, until your pointer explodes, then you can continue but the stage timer will continue to run, so might lose the stage no matter what.

The closing credits of the game concluded with a screen featuring Wally, Wenda and Woof with the text "to be continued"; however Sega never actually produced a sequel to the game.
