In the year 6809, an alien force powerful in both science and witchcraft kidnaps the princess of Bunnyland, Komomo Kitashirakawa, along with her sister Kotomi Kitashirakawa and their grandfather the king, Taro Kitashirakawa.
Two robotic rabbits built for combat, Rabio and Lepus, rescue the royal family by fighting enemies on a spaceship, an asteroid, and the enemy's planet.

The game is known for combining the sci-fi aesthetic of shoot-'em-ups at the time with some comedic and absurdist elements (such as the boss character Tenukie, which resembles a teru teru bōzu doll).
It is also known for its health system where player lives are represented as multiple health gauges, which can take multiple hits before depleting.

The weapon system is a classic, with one button firing a stream of flashing bullets and the other unleashing a cluster of missiles.
Its melee system is unique where attacks up-close are more powerful close-ranged punches useful for cracking open the carrot cans, keeping the power ups inside from falling off the screen as they so often do when the cans are struck with bullets.

Its difficulty selection system where players can opt for a more-challenging difficulty at double the score.

The game has 12 stages and 4 at it has cut scenes that were eliminated in "Rabbit Punch". These include a picture appearing when the spaceship flies out of the castle at the start, pictures when the two bunny girls and Rabbit King are rescued and scenes at the ending.

Rabio and Lepus would later appear as secret playable characters in Sonic Wings and in various cameos throughout the Sonic Wings series and other Video System games.
Komomo and Kotomi also appeared in a few later games, and the king returned in the guise of Lord River-n-White in nearly all of the series and many other Video System titles.
Finally, the enemies Tenukie Chaudo and the Kame-Chargers served as a final boss in some Sonic Wings games, and the boss Fire Master is a minor enemy in Sonic Wings 3 and a boss in two other Video System games.
