Playing around with Wangan Maximum Midnight Tune 6R from the Namco ES3 and getting the game to render natively at 4k. I managed to get just about all 3d elements rendering at 4k, the menus and overlays are also displaying correctly. It's just for a bit of fun and challenge, nothing more nothing less.

I noticed in the resolution patcher for Wangan 5/6 that's out there, it doesn't patch the resolution of the cars on the car select screen and the screens after it. Small thing but i managed to find those as well. I'm fairly sure that the car tumbnails just before you select a manufacturer are textures, hence why they look kinda crap @ 4k, but i can't get into the .nut format to check it yet so that's something to be done.

I would make a patcher but i can't write a line of code so i wouldn't know where to start. I'd have to redo all of the patching and testing again as well because there were too many offsets changed that i just did it on the fly. I'll try and go back and document it all, and send it over to jconfig team. People who have a clue would probably achieve this with their eyes closed, but i'm a noob who just likes to play with things i don't know much about and see if i can get them to do things. Most of the time i fail, this one is a WIN though!


The intro video has been ai upscaled from the original (average quality) 720p source to native 4k. It did a really good job, if you compare it to the original, it's quite amazing really. There's certain areas where it's drawn things, (like the FAIRLADYZ badge on the car) where it was sort of hard to clearly make it out in the original and it's reconstructed the badge very nicely. I was impressed. It was a bit painful.... WMV to MP4 to AI upscale to WMV..... The youtube compression will kill it a bit, even at 4k, but it came out very nice.

Wangan is fun, but i don't care much for the new cars, it's deja vu really.. i feel like i've played this game at least twice before! Playing this game without a wheel is... shit. It's still fun, even though it is the same game as 6, and 5dx+ and 5Dx and 5... and........man they milked this.

Big up to tattoohanz for his translation patch and of course the jconfig folks who have brought me many hours of fun. Also thanks to Nezam4640 for his patcher of previous games, it was a helpful reference to get started.
