War Thunder: Ki-61b, take off, navigation, and landing review (Realistic Mode)
Take off Procedure:
1. Turn on the engine: " i ".
2. Deploy your take off flaps, press " ] " twice.
3. Full throttle to 100%. Press "W" until the engine power goes to 100%.
4. Use your rudder controls to center the aircraft on the runway. "Q" left rudder, and "E" right rudder.
5. When you reach about 190 to 220 kph or 118 mph to 136 mph pull up on your stick. Make sure, your aircraft is center, or you will tip over and crash when you take off.
6. Pull your landing gear up, "G", and raise your flaps, press " [ " two times.
Landing procedure:
1. If you are going too fast, you can circle around the airfield. As you do this, reduce your speed to about 30 to 50%, and go look at the airfield from the side. Deploy your landing flaps (Press " ] " 3 times to get the speed down some more.
2. Turn your aircraft around to center it to the airfield, and deploy your landing gear "G". Get your speed down to 200 kph or less.
3. Make your aircraft parallel to the runway, and touch down.
4. When you touch down, pull down on the stick, so your nose is facing up.
5. Use your breaks by pressing down on "S". Do it little by little and pull on the stick as you slow down. If you don't pull up on the stick or break too fast, the front of your airplane will hit the runway. This is so because the front of piston engine aircraft is heavier than the back. You have to compensate for it by breaking gradually, and pointing the nose of your aircraft up.
6. After you stop, turn off the engine " i ".
The Ki-61 series are interesting aircraft in that this was the only inline fighter Japan had during World War 2.
The armaments of the Ki-61b are 4 12.7mm machine guns, and they are fast firing machine guns. You can spit out a lot of lead with these guns, and you have about 1800 rounds between 4 machine guns. This gives you enough ammo to inflict a lot of damage without running out quickly.
The handling of the Ki-61 is not as good at the A6M Zero, or Ki-43 fighter aircraft. For a Japanese plane, it isn't very nimble or agile. It is an easy aircraft to fly, but you have to roll a little to get your guns on target in dogfights. It isn't a very fast aircraft having a top speed of 360 mph or 576 kph. You can dive more quickly than most Japanese fighters, because it is heavier. This aircraft can climb well due to its powerful engine. It is a very forgiving aircraft, and you can turn better than most radial engine Japanese fighters at higher speeds.
Overall, the Ki-61b has a great cockpit in that, you can see very well. Your view isn't obstructed from the rear, and you can see all around without much obstructions. The firepower is good, and you have a lot of ammo in those fast firing guns. The handling is good at higher speeds, it is easy to fly, and it has excellent acceleration. For a inline engine aircraft, it isn't very good in my opinion. It cannot compare to a Bf-109, Spitfire, Macchi C.202, P-39, Yak-3, or a P-51 Mustang in performance. The reason being, the Japanese never really upgraded the Ki-61, like the other nations upgraded their aircraft. It was good against earlier allied inline engine aircraft, like the P-40s, Lagg 3s, or Hurricanes.
