Wargames Atlantic: Afghan Warriors, a most versatile kit!
I'll admit I've been having a lot of fun noodling around with the various kits Wargames Atlantic has released so far, despite not getting around to showing them off on my channel... yet.
The Afghans are no different. While you get multiple copies of the same spure (8 of them to be exact), Wargames Atlantic really crams as many parts as they seem to be able to fit on these frames.
Considering this kit is supposed to be of a 19th century warrior, most of the parts reflect that era- predominantly basic firearms with a smattering of close quarter weapons. There may not be a lot of extra bits to customize with but they do offer up quite a lot of head options, so your warriors should certainly look unique compared to one another. If you ever wanted to do an Araby themed army for Warhammer or Kings of War, this is a nice starting option for human troops.
...but that's just keeping things kosher and building the kit with the parts provided. Why limit ourselves to just that, right?
I'm happy to tell you that these bodies work really well with Northstar's range of plastics, along with plastic Empire bits from Games Workshop if you can still acquire any of those. You can see in my haphazard examples bits from Frostgrave, Flagellants, Free Companies, Ghost Archipelago, Necromunda, and a few Age of Sigmar parts. Next on the chopping block are Admech bits to see if I can postapoc them up a bit.
Sadly the Death Fields bits from the Grognards and Raumjagers seemed a bit too large, mostly due to the bulkiness of their armor and weapons. I'm going to have to see how they work with their Persians and Irish that WGA produce out of sheer curiosity (and to make some interesting warbands while I'm at it).
You can't argue with the amount of models you get in a box either. 40 guys for the same price as their other kits with half that amount? Sure, why not. If you have piles of leftover bits to kitbash with, this kit's a goldmine.
Only real issues I can see are the size- they're 28mm compared to whatever heroic scale GW and others are heading towards. Plus the fact that no bases are included- that's what helps keep the prices low (and if you're a bit of a Grognard yourself you know you have more bases than you'll ever need as it is).
Keep 'em coming Wargames Atlantic!
