Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton won't let ring ceremony distract his focus on Pelicans
WARRIORS PRACTICE FACILITY, OAKLAND, CA -- Golden State Warriors interim head coach Luke Walton will be coaching the team's season opener, in place of Steve Kerr who is not yet fully recovered from complications stemming from back surgery.
The season opener is also when the Warriors will finally receive their championship rings. However, Walton -- who won two championships with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2009 and 2010 -- will be more focused on winning his first regular season NBA game as head coach against the New Orleans Pelicans.
"I mean, it's gonna be a great night. It's special. The players deserve it, the fans deserve it, but I'm not gonna lie," said Walton. "I'm gonna be a lot more focused on trying to win that game.
"I'll be able to look back on that night with great memory later on, but when Tuesday comes, I'll be focused on the game -- that's pretty much it."
