WATER DROPLET food from A BUG'S LIFE! | Feast of Fiction
7,410Today we eat... water! Enjoy this Molecular Gastronomy recipe which recreates the water bubble from Pixar's "A Bug's Life". It's a simple recipe and a great intro for anyone who's been interested in some more science-y experiments in the kitchen.

INGREDIENTS:
1g - Sodium Alginate
5g - Calcium Chloride (Or Calcium Lactate for a softer membrane)
4 cups - Water
1 cup - Drinking Water
Add 1g of Sodium Alginate to 1 cup of drinking water.
Using hand mixer, ensure Sodium Alginate is completely dissolved.
Set Mixture aside for 15 minutes (ensure no air bubbles).
Add 5g Calcium Chloride (or Calcium Lactate) to the 4 cups of water, mix using spoon and ensure Calcium is completely dissolved.
Take curved spoon and scoop sodium Alginate solution.
Gently plop it into the calcium lactate bath.
Repeat process ensuring not to overcrowd the bath.
Allow bubbles to rest in Calcium Solution for 2 minutes.
Carefully lift out the water bubbles and put it in the bath of regular water to stop reaction.
