WedSNESday: Let's Play Soul Blazer
This WedSNESday, Matt & Luke play their first RPG one-shot, trying out the Enix action-adventure RPG Soul Blazer. They travel around a strange barren overworld, attempting to bring some sort of semblance of interesting life to the land, all while killing random green monsters.
Soul Blazer, or Soul Blader in Japan, was released in 1994 on the SNES by Enix (pre Square merger), developed by Quintet, also known for ActRaiser, Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma, as evidenced by the same sound library being shared between both of their earliest projects. The game is a top-down realtime action RPG where the player is sent by "The Master" - a god of the game's world - down to the devastated kingdom of Freil where they must restore life to the land by destroying monster lairs to restore the peoples's lost soul crystals.
The game features narrative elements, but in this playthrough, the NPCs remain mostly in the first dungeon.

WedSNESday is the Level 0 NPCs weekly series where we play one older game for one episode, just to relive the nostalgia and maybe make your hump day just a little bit more fun.
