Westland Whirlwind bw

The Whirlwind was an early cannon armed plane for the RAF. Its engine development was curbed as RR focused on Merlin. Only 114 were built, but they operated for 3 years and for a small force hit hard. The plane got some critics - but the pilots liked it, and they often got a pilot home despite damage.
