A common misconception for new Rocket League players is that the difference between a pro and a normal grand champion, which is the highest rank in Rocket League, is incredibly more drastic than most people think. The mmr system which is what measures your rank, goes beyond just normal grand champion so pros get matched up against each other far more often than they get matched up against an average low grand champ. In this video, I test out what happens when I, a normal GC, get put in a pro scrim among the best Rocket League players in the world.

Rocket League has one of the highest skill ceilings in all of esports. Despite nothing changing within the gameplay, the meta of Rocket League is still evolving even years after its release. Every time we think pros have reached their peak of skill, they impress us even more by the next season of RLCS. A low grand champion is actually the same rank as the pros but the skill is far different. Today, I put this to the test by placing myself in a full on pro scrim 3v3 lobby to truly test out how much of a disadvantage we get put at by just having a normal GC replace a pro. To do this test, I needed some RLCS pros of course so I got Dappur, Satthew, and Shock from Soniqs Esports which is formerly known as Afterthought. They are a new team to RLCS this season but look to have a promising season with how seamlessly they breezed into RLCS. RLCS season 9 is coming up so we'll see how they perform in their first season together at the highest level. Soniqs Esports is their new org that they joined and they are currently in a team house in Pennsylvania fully committed to their Rocket League careers. The team we competed against was the Pittsburgh Knights. The Knights were new to RLCS last season and had a very successful season. They finished top 4 in North America and had a decent performance at the LAN championship in Madrid, Spain. Their team consists of Retals, Ayyjayy, and Gyro. Ayyjayy is a new player to the team but has been in RLCS for many season now and has proved himself a very dangerous player to play against.
The scrim itself went fairly well. I was surprised by how close the games were so apparently my teammates are excellent carries or I just did an okay job at adjusting to the speed and making myself barely useful enough. However, we did lose the series 3-0 which basically shows you that I do NOT belong anywhere near their level. I'm curious to see how those teams perform against each other in RLCS so we can see how much I actually dragged them down.
Rocket League is a truly incredible game that requires speed, mechanics, positive mentality, just straight up brain power, and so much more. Seeing how much better the pros are than me really brought out the truth about how good they actually are and how far I am from becoming a pro despise having 3000+ hours in the game.
