
What The HELL Happened To Clock Tower?
Thrilling, atmospheric, and tense are just a few of the words that have been used to describe the clock tower games over the years. If you had a chance to play any of them, especially the originals, odds are, you would agree. The claustrophobic settings, a menacing villain, and some innovative gameplay mechanics really added up to an excellent serving of classic survival horror goodness for the mid 90's. North American and European gamers got a Playstation game simply called Clock Tower that would serve as the region's original game for the series whereas Japanese gamers got a super famicom game a year earlier that was the true origin story.
But no matter which region you were in, both of the point-and-click games were a great way to kick off the Clock Tower series and both games were critical and commercial achievements for Human Entertainment and for horror as an emerging genre in video games. But why does the iconic scissorman only exist in our minds as a memory today? Why would a classic horror game of the 90's that explicitly serves as inspiration for so many horror games today simply fade away like it has? What the hell happened to Clock Tower?
