Ask, and you shall receive a very long answer. Sorry for the bit of repetition at the end, but I wanted to drive the point home.

Some things I wanted to mention that didn't make it into the video:

- I did see a doctor; medication ended up not being right for me. That being said, I didn't take it as long as I should have. For meds to work, you're supposed to take them for quite some time before you feel an improvement. Plenty of people experience success when taking medication for their depression. I ultimately decided it wasn't for me.

- Depression can manifest in many ways. I was afflicted with insomnia, and very intense pain in my back. The emotional pain was so bad, it actually presented itself as physical pain. I still experience both of these, though they aren't nearly as severe as before.

- Getting active can help IMMENSELY with depression. It will keep your mind healthy as well as your body. I got into boxing, tennis, hiking, and camping, and it all helped to improve my outlook. I would have continued playing hockey again, but where I live now, there's no place to play. I can't recommend exercising and working out enough if you're feeling depressed and aren't already active.

- I thought I might have had depression for quite some time before actually owning up to the fact that I was depressed. I was too proud to admit to myself that I could be depressed, I didn't want to seem weak. It actually takes strength to admit when something's wrong and then try to fix it. MANY people have depression, and some are more susceptible to it than others. You're not alone.

- This could be the most important thing I left out of the video. You are who your friends are. If you surround yourself by happy people who strive to help those around them be the best they can be, you will find yourself doing the same. On the other hand, if you find yourself surrounded by people that are petty, selfish, spiteful, and cruel, (all of which creates negative energy that can contribute to depression) you may find yourself to be a reflection of them.

There are many different kinds of depression and plenty of people who have it never even try to seek help. If you think you might be depressed, or just want to learn about it, check out these sites:
