* Rich Peasants-The rich peasants like Patidars of Gujarat and the Iats of Uttar Pradest were producers of commercial crop.
They were badly hit by the trade depression and falling prices and were not in a position to pay revenue to the government.
They joined the movement in order to get the revenue re duced. * Poor Peasants-Small tenants cultivating rented land from land lords joined the movement with the hope that their un paid yent to the land lord would be remitted because due to depression they were not in a position to pay the rent.
