Why Do I Have PANIC Attacks? Understanding The Cycle - Psychotherapy Crash Course
Most people believe that panic attacks are visible, involve hyperventilating, and profuse sweating and respiratory upset. The reality is that panic attacks can happen anywhere you go (quietly or loudly) and be triggered by anything in your immediate environment or because of thoughts or feelings you are experiencing.
I remember being in college/grad school over 8 years ago and having a mini panic attack I didn't even know I was having. I tend to be "laid back" so I don't always show what's going on inside. I experienced dizziness, nausea, increased heart rate, fatigue, and feeling like I had hot flashes. I was also later diagnosed with costochondritis. All of this was due to unresolved anxiety as a graduate student carrying a professional internship in a teaching university and maintaining my grades.
For most people, responsibilities are the main trigger. You may not look anxious as if you are having a panic attack but you know you just feel "strange." You may not be hyperventilating but you can feel your heart rate go up. All of the things discussed in this video can be defeated with counseling, awareness of triggers, self-care or relaxation, and early planning.
In this video, I will discuss the panic cycle.
