Age of Empires 4 has proven, with high player numbers of steam and reasonably positive reviews aside from a few negative points, to be a successful revivial of the age-old AOE real-time strategy franchise. It has also given yet another breath of fresh air and nuance into the wider strategy game genre, which has seen a very successful year in 2021 with notable releases and launches like the completion of Sid Meier's Civilization 6's New Frontier Pass dlc season/ pack, and of course the launch of Amplitude Studio's Humankind game in August 2021 - further supporting historical strategy games and 4x titles.

This is my final part, three of three if you will, of my reflective Age of Empires 4 launch review and video essay series - and I've saved the best until last - why do people love age of empires 4? "The full release of age of empires 4 today gives real time strategy, city building, conquest and broader fort/ empire builders something to be excited about - we haven't had considerable new content for a very long time, and even with extra dlc and expansions for Age of Empires 2 and 3, including the anthology and their definitive editions, we haven't truly had a new age of empires game in a while.

Age 4 delivers some lack luster, yet 4K, graphics and reasonable AI and unit pathing (although still quite flawed) to the franchise. It launches with 8 playable factions, a multiplayer mode, sandbox mode, and over 40 missions within the historical campaigns. AoE4 mods and map makers will have to wait - the game isn't launching with that support, even through Steam.

Overall is Age of Empires 4 worth it? Is AoE4 fun? And why buy age 4 when the definitive edition of AoE4 has already come out? In this video review I will answer those questions and provide some feedback and overall verdicts on age of empires 4. I hope that Age of Empires IV will have the staying power previous iterations had, but with a high launch price it seems the barrier to entry is fairly high. Thankfully, the addition of age of empires 4 to the xbox gamepass for pc helps make it, at least temporarily, an easier sell for most anyone".
