I'm here to tell you why Loot River could well be one of the more unique and interesting games that you can play this month. If you like that, consider leaving a comment and connecting to us on twitter.

Loot River is a procedurally generated roguelite game in which you spend a large amount of time dashing and slashing your way through enemies who have little patterns of attacks that you need to learn to exploit and like, not die lots. But fear not, dying is only a part of the journey, and when you do die, you get to come back and do it all over again, although with some of your progression now gone.

There are weapons to collect, gold coins to spend and pixel art coming out the kahoots in a game that has that, dark, mysterious and cool kind of aesthetic to it without being ultra precise with animations and art. And at this point you're thinking, how in the world does that make loot river unique. I could be explaining any of a handful of brilliant roguelite action games released over the past 5 years, and about 500 of the really shit ones.

There is one mechanic in Loot River that makes it stand out and I have to be completely honest in saying i've never played a game that has this sort of thing going for it. In loot river, you control the floating platforms that you walk upon, which take upon tetris like shapes, and hence solve visual puzzles to work your way through dungeons, whilst also slaying at whatever moves.

So how does this effect gameplay? Well first of all, it will have you throwing away your steam controller, cos thats beyond terrible for playing Loot River, and the keyboard is pretty hard to get the grasp of too. Unfortunately my ps5 controller didn't plug and play but i ended up get the ds4 working, and it was well worth searching under every piece of junk at my desk to find it.

Using your left analogue to move, and right to manoeuvre platforms leads to some pretty, left and right brain sort of interactions in which your trying to run way, but actually doing the opposite. But once you get the handle of it, it leads to awesome fast paced strategic action where you can isolate, kyte and dodge your way around enemies by using your platforms movement.

It is a seriously cool strategy and well implemented. First impressions are good here. Let me know what you think about Loot River!
