A short snippet from my video on why taking risks in video games matters. The formula for how to make video games without faults is out there, and you see it with every new sports release and every big-budget project from the largest studios in the world. But that wasn't always the case, and games from our past like Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Grim Fandango, and so on didn't thrive in our youth because they somehow discovered that formula early - they succeeded because they abandoned standard thinking and embraced risks. The Original Metal Gear solid has plenty of flaws, but those missteps happened because Hideo Kojima and Konami chased their idea of a perfect video game without worrying about what choices had mass appeal. Those faults are a small price to pay for the creativity and ambition throughout MGS that wouldn't exist if they were worried about making something that appealed to everyone.
