A short snippet from my video on why taking risks in video games matters. The formula for how to make video games without faults is out there, and you see it with every new sports release and every big-budget project from the largest studios in the world. But that wasn't always the case, and games from our past like Metal Gear Solid, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Grim Fandango, and so on didn't thrive in our youth because they somehow discovered that formula early - they succeeded because they abandoned standard thinking and embraced risks. You see that approach with modern classics too, like Undertale. Undertale is not a perfect video game because it took risks in every aspect of its design, but because they rolled the dice as much as possible, they struck gold on countless fun ideas that they wouldn't have hit on if they were trying to make a more palatable game.
