Why Overwatch 2's Monetization is Such a Problem
2,459Wow, another YouTube hot take about Overwatch's monetization?
I know, it's not original to argue that Blizzard's new monetization model sucks. Even as someone who was optimistic about the battle pass system when it was announced, it's become clear that this isn't an everybody-wins situation - in fact, I'd argue nobody wins here in the long-term, including Blizzard. Customers are being screwed, the industry is being driven into increasingly-exploitative monetization models, and Blizzard's model is actively undermining Overwatch 2's long-term viability - or are they unintentionally revealing that they don't believe that Overwatch is able to go the distance by taking such a short-term approach?
Overwatch 2 is a genuinely great game. It's just a shame that Blizzard is more focused on squeezing blood from stones than just providing great content.
