Some Wii U’s have been bricked after the release of Super Smash Bros, with the console giving an error code, along with the message:

“There is a problem with the system memory. For help, make a note of the error code and visit support.nintendo.com.”

The error code specifically is 160-0103, and some users have claimed that they can no longer play Smash Bros, but others have said their entire system has become inoperable, or ‘bricked’. The error is specifically related to corrupted data, and it seems as though Wii U’s are only being bricked if people attempt to format their console after receiving it. That said, I would definitely recommend that you do not format your Wii U if you get this error, obviously. Just in case you were having second thoughts because you live life on the edge, or something.

Regarding this, Nintendo said:

“A small percentage of consumers playing Wii U may experience error codes (160-0103 and 60-1710) that could affect the ability of the system to function properly. We are investigating this issue now.”

A handful of posts on social media suggest that people have received this same error code for other games, but it’s perhaps just increasing now as more people are actively using the Wii U because of Smash Bros. Other games that may have had the same error code include: Scribblenauts, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Batman: Arkham Origins, Super Mario 3D World, New Super Mario Bros. U, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD.
