Bring the player, not the class. Blizzard’s design philosophy for raiding in wrath. This design philosophy led to changing how buffs and debuffs interacted within a party and raid. Many buffs and debuffs that were previously allowed to stack together no longer can in Wrath, and certain buffs and debuffs that only a single class and specialization could have brought in the past can now be brought by multiple different classes and specializations in Wrath.

This is arguably the biggest change to PvE in Wrath of the Lich King.
In addition, Blizzard made almost all buffs raid-wide. This now means players will now have more flexibility in which classes they bring to parties and raids, and there’s no longer a need to organize your groups in a certain way so that certain classes get the correct buffs. No more spellcaster groups and no more melee groups – it doesn’t make a difference.
So you might be wondering – will your class be in demand in wrath based on all these changes? Well the best way to figure that out is to review the buffs and debuffs that are provided by each class and specialization to see where the overlap is, and which classes still remain uniquely valuable to a raid – bringing something that NO OTHER CLASS CAN. So that by the end of the video you’ll know if YOUR class will be in demand in Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

As we go through this list, remember that for each buff/debuff we talk about, players can only benefit from the most powerful spell or ability granting that effect, that means they don’t stack.
Let’s start with buffs.

Horn of Winter from Death Knights and Strength of Earth Totem from Shaman both increase party and raid Strength and Agility by 155. Good to know so your shaman can use a different Earth totem if a Death Knight is in the raid, or vice versa if there isn’t a DK your shaman needs to use it.
Inspiration from Holy Priests and Ancestral Healing from Restoration Shaman are both buffs which grant 10% reduced physical damage taken after receiving a critical heal. Note that neither Holy Paladins nor Restoration Druids have this buff, so this is a reason to seek out either a Priest or Resto Shaman for your raid.

Both Blessing of Might and Battle Shout grant the same exact amount of attack power, and both have talents which improve that amount – the Retribution Paladin talent called Improved Blessing of Might increases effectiveness by 25% at max rank, and Commanding Presence for Fury Warriors also increases the attack power bonus by 25% at max rank. It’s worth noting though that the commanding presence talent takes 5 skill points to reach max while Improved Blessing of Might only takes two talent points. So, it might make sense for the retribution paladin to bring the talented might buff to the raid.

Mages don’t get their bloodlust called Time warp until Cataclysm, so Shaman are still in demand for Bloodlust or Heroism, but the sated debuff is in the game, which makes players unable to benefit from bloodlust until the debuff fades, so you can’t stack them, and the buff is raid-wide now, like the rest.

Ferocious Inspiration from Beast Mastery Hunters, Sanctified Retribution from Retribution Paladins, and Arcane Empowerment from Arcane Mages all increase Damage done by 3% for party and raid members. This is a scenario where the buff is the exact same, so you have flexibility on your choice here on which class/spec you want to bring to the raid out of these three – I could see most min maxers bringing the Arcane mage for this buff, at least until ICC when Mages go Fire and Rets get Shadowmourne.
Trueshot Aura from Marksman Hunters, Unleashed Rage from Enhance Shaman and Abomination’s Might from Blood Death Knights are the exact same – granting 10% increased attack power to party and raid members. Depending on if you have a Blood DK tank providing this buff you might change your roster around.
