Windblown - Cataclysmic Difficulty Playthrough
30Playing through Windblown with a successful clear on Cataclysmic difficulty (the hardest it gets for now). This makes things much tankier, hit harder, adds more abilities to elites, and removes all hot springs.
I've been really enjoying Windblown so far as I started playing it with friends but we've also been playing on our own to get more consistent with progression as the sudden death mechanic when one teammate goes down makes it very easy to lose a run (and a few times that's been me from standing in the line of sawblades the factory robot shoots out).
It does seem magifish are very OP particularly the boing fish as it's basically an instant win against elites and can take down minibosses or bosses with almost no danger to yourself (the gobble fish and protector fish are much weaker in comparison) but they don't show up too often so it was very lucky to get one so early. I do like the alterattack system where you use one weapon to trigger a boosted attack with your other weapon. The boomerang is very easy for using alterattacks quickly and the ravenblade's alterattack does great damage and provides a lot of iframes. I kind of like the eye blade but its iframes seem a bit wonky and when it comes to the sirocco I tend to aim incorrectly with the alterattack.
But there's a good bit of RNG as weapon upgrades are very noticeable (I got lucky getting a level 6 ravenblade) so you might have to switch weapon types to have good damage. The health boost the final axolotl gets makes it take forever to whittle down with low damage.
There's an alternate starting level Fungal Swamps but you fight the same miniboss, just different enemies in the zone. If you defeat the robot's head when it's fleeing you'll fight a different miniboss in the rat village but unless you have some crazy damage or some good control trinkets it's difficult to pull off on cataclysmic (and personally the rat captain usually gives me bigger problems).
