Windows 8 vs Windows 7 Speed Test (Old, link to new version)
A head-to-head speed test of Windows 8 vs Windows 7 on a 6 year old Fujitsu tablet. Both versions of the OS have just the basic drivers loaded along with Microsoft's virus protection.
While not definitive, it appears that Windows 8 is very optimized. I'm sure there are a ton of technical sites that will give you the details, ad nauseam. But we're convinced.
We have also tested them on more modern systems (up to Quad-core I7) and the difference in speed is not so visually discernible but it's there.
Of course, this is still a pen-only tablet. No fingers here. No multi-touch. I wouldn't upgrade a very old pen tablet to use a new operating system that needs the multi-touch capabilities to make the interface flow. Especially as nice as Windows 8.
Stay tuned for our series on Windows 8. As you can tell, we love it!
