Wings of Wor/Gynoug Playthrough: Round 1: Cave (Hard)
8Did you guys enjoy the soundtrack I put on here a few months ago?
Now you can see me play through the game itself. I don't have a lot of favorite SHMUPs yet, but this would be in my list of them.
If you're familiar with Masaya's homoerotic Cho Aniki series (which I'm kinda scared to play for that reason), you may enjoy this game, too. It's pretty unique for its time.
What both Wings of Wor and Cho Aniki have in common are their extremely bizarre boss designs, and some normal enemy designs at that. I try to remind myself to soak my mind with Brain Bleach occasionally because of these bosses, but despite WoW's boss being a bit creepy, they're MUCH more tame compared to CA's...

The story is that the heavens are under attack by the demons of Iccur, who are all lead by a being known as The Destroyer. You play as a warrior angel called Wor in order to face against the forces of Iccur and The Destroyer all on your own.
In Stage 1, you start out in a cave. Pretty straightforward, but watch out for that huge swarm before each of the stage's bosses.
The midboss of Stage 1 here is some kind of giant, floating, fossilized turtle called Dragoon. You have to keep shooting at its neck to kill it. It speeds up its movement and rate of fire as it nears its death.
The rest of the Round beyond that is traveling through more of the cave you're in. It's main boss is Locomotive Breath, an abnormal train with the face of a man. Keep shooting that face while dodging his shots until he dies.
From what I can assess, the difficulty just sets the health of every single thing that you can kill. The very same things that can kill you...
..except walls, ceilings, and the ground. Just don't touch those or you'll die from them. Some of them are possibly okay, but don't test it just to be safe.
