Wordament in 2024
1I bought a new phone at the start of the year, and I figured I would try out Wordament again. I used to go under the name "PeskyPizza1" and now my "gamertag" is "pbn3755".
The reason I stopped originally a few years ago was for a few reasons:
- they updated the game and in my opinion made it worse (useless single player mode, ads on the bottom of the screen which you can hit by mistake, etc)
- the phone I had at the time was not responding to my swipes as well as the previous phone I had
- I was spending too much time on the game
Some reflections on my own gameplay and the state of the game in general:
1) It took me a while to get my speed back. I recently hit 186 on a speed round but for the most part I was struggling to even hit 150 on speed rounds.
2) I've always been a ratio player, I routinely win rounds with 20-30 less words. This has not changed. I'm able to spam on speed rounds but for the most part my biggest weakness is my unwillingness to spam. I would also say there are a lot more spammers these days, guys who will just spam 120-130 on every round with terrible ratios. Sometimes I lose out to this sort of playstyle.
3) The game is a lot less popular, but retains its hardcore player base. It's funny to still see names like Marathoner and BoomRShine after all these years. We used to get around 1000 concurrent players per round back in the day, now we get just under 200. It sucks and I blame Microsoft.
4) My goal is to remain a consistent top 10 active player. I think I'm there already or close enough. There are a few players that I consistently lose to with good ratios like the Chris guy but for the most part I can hang with the current best players.
