World End Longplay (Atari 2600 Game) - Warning: Contains Flashing Lights!
- World End Longplay (Atari 2600 Game) -
While World End is not the worst game in the console's library, is far from being one of the best or even just average. The thing is, it's marred by one particularly irritating aspect that makes it almost unbearable: the unpredictable and random activation of a laser ray by the mothership.
Your primary objective is to score 5000 points per stage while keeping the aliens from touching the ground to avoid losing a life. However, the game's reliance on this unpredictable laser ray becomes a major source of frustration. You can do little more than shoot and hope that it doesn't hit you, and this element of chance undermines the gameplay.
Adding to the annoyance is the game's swift increase in difficulty. After completing the first loop, you'll find it nearly impossible to progress further. You'll quickly lose all your lives, struggle to clear even a single additional stage, and be left defenseless against the mothership's relentless ray for mere seconds at best.
As a gamer who values skill-based gameplay, it's frustrating when a game relies more on luck than your abilities. I guess it remained an obscure Atari 2600 title for a reason...
