World Of Commodore Report #7 - Emptying The Car - Vintage Commodore 64 Circuit Board - Episode 1881
Time to re-test the SID Chip that seemed to be ok, but then seemed to not be OK...not all 6581 chips have the same sounds...but yet, they are working...and indeed, time to button up this machine and document my findings...it will require surgical procedures to get it working and back in the game...and yes...I suspect RAM and cold solder joints...back to the car I will go and see what pops out next!
From Episode 1880
Time to put everything back into both of these computers...and see what is what...and yes, I will make use of the RETROREWIND,CA diagnostic cartridge to enlighten me and perhaps help me find the way, the right direction to go when it comes to removing and testing chips that are socketed! This is indeed, and strange machine...there could be other issues lingering as well!
From Episode 1879
Time to do some testing of the socketed chips to see what is what in case the failures of this machine to come to life is one of them...and of course all sorts of other insights!
From Episode 1878...
So, here is the first of the 64's that were on the luggage cart that I really tried not to buy at the 2023 Toronto PET Users Group World of Commodore gathering...and there are some notes on the top of it...indicating that it does not work...and there was something shaking around inside...so I opened it up and found it to be a very old original circuit board with ceramic RAM chips and a PLA that has a sticker on it...which was also pretty early along in the production run...so, let us explore this relic!
