FILMMAKER BIO:

DAWN OF MAN
Victor Ridaura, L.A., CA

- How long have you been making movies?
Since high school.

- Inspiration for the short?
Various members of my family have been victims of kidnappings in my home country of Venezuela. These kidnappings have normally lasted only the span of a night, but the fear they have introduced into our lives is palpable and everlasting. Moreover, the house I grew up in has been broken into several times, but because calling the police is just as dangerous as calling back the people that broke into the house, my father has dealt with these situations personally. This means that the fear of being kidnapped or becoming the victims of a home invasion are very real. Living abroad now for several years, I am always a little nervous when I get a call late at night from family, afraid something has gone very wrong.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
Currently submitting my feature script Kingmaker to several labs and production companies. The script is a creepy, character-driven slasher film, of similar scale and mood to Nightcrawler by way of Halloween (2018). I'm also in the midst of writing two new short films, one a tech-based supernatural horror set late at night in an office. The other, a social thriller set during a busy day in a supermarket parking lot.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Bloody Disgusting has been my go-to source for horror news for as far back as I can remember. When WOD started, I loved the idea of a one place destination to explore and be inspired by what other horror filmmakers were doing around the world.

BLOOD WILL HAVE BLOOD
Meg Swertlow & Miles Szanto, LA, CA

- How long have you been making movies?
Meg: I've been screenwriting for 6 years and directing for a year.
Miles: I’ve been working in film since I was about 9. I directed my first short in 2010.

- Inspiration for the short?
Meg: Male fragility... and Miles' bathroom tiles.
Miles: The monotony of my own company during the early days of lockdown.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
Meg: Along with Blood Will Have Blood, my other short, Watcher, will also be playing at the Horror Hound Film Festival March 19-21st. I'm also shopping my horror feature script, No Overnight Parking.
Miles: I have two films I’ve written that are in development and a film I’ll be acting in alongside Harvey Keitel and Abbie Cornish later in 2021.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Meg: I love being in the horror community and I know this is a great site!
Miles: Passionate film fans no matter what genre are the backbone of the film industry. It’s exciting to have communities where people can share their passions.

PERIL
John Denton, S.F., CA

- How long have you been making movies?
I’ve been making films ever since I was a teenager in Connecticut. In 2010 I moved to SF to attend the Academy of Art University and be somewhere that inspires me everyday— like SF.

- Favorite horror film?
Suspiria/Fade To Black/Hereditary

- Inspiration for the short?
I wanted to challenge myself to create something entirely on my own and to express how 2020 was feeling at the time— super uncomfortable and surreal.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
Currently I’m working on a documentary on physical media with a focus on boutique film labels. Other than that, I’m developing a feature based on the Wendigo that I hope to shoot sometime next year.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
I just love seeing indie filmmakers show off their skills and appreciate WOD for giving us an audience.
