FILMMAKER BIO:
Ariana DiValentino, New York, NY (but in LA through the summer)
- How long have you been making movies?
About 7 years I guess! It wasn't until college that the idea of making movies really even occurred to me, so I feel like a bit of a late bloomer compared to some. I'm just getting started.
- Favorite horror film?
Jennifer's Body
- Location where short was filmed?
Bushwick, baybee!
- Inspiration for the short?
Jennifer's Body again. Also a short called "Fish Hook and Eye" by Chloé Aktas, magical realism, Tumblr, and Rosemary's Baby, among other things.
- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Diablo Cody makes dialogue sparkle, and in a totally different camp, I'm a huge David Lynch fan.
- Why did you get into making horror movies?
Horror is the perfect medium for allegorical storytelling – sometimes it's the best (or only) way to explore fears surrounding real, everyday things like relationships, politics, and society. Also, it's fun.
- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
Come to think of it, remaking Rosemary's Baby would be an incredible opportunity for exploring even more themes and aesthetics pertaining to gendered bodies/body horror, female and femme experience, and this vaguely cultlike "mommy culture" we have today. Terrifying.
- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
I'm slowly birthing a feature-length horror screenplay (more body horror!) and meanwhile trying to build my career as an actor.
- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Nightmares Film Fest made me aware of WOD, and I think it's just another testament to how passionate the folks at BD are about horror. I love the enthusiasm, the care, the consideration.

-----------
A.D. Burnett - Poughkeepsie, New York
- How long have you been making movies?
Not long enough. Until recently, I was pouring all my energy into writing only.
- Favorite horror film?
Romero’s Martin
- Location where short was filmed?
Just some house we broke into.
- Inspiration for the short?
Came to me in a vision. Or as an image, at least.
- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Michael Haneke depicts human cruelty like no other. He can also do compassion, too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
- Why did you get into making horror movies?
I often think in terms of allegory so I appreciate that horror is usually distilled to its most basic elements.
- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
A realistic take on The Stepfather (1987) could be promising. But I didn’t see the remake, so maybe someone already nailed that.
- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
My current script is a departure. It’s downright heartwarming. But I’m back to more genre stuff on the next one. . . . If you liked “Communication is Key,” please check out “Desperate? Defeated? Depressed?” elsewhere on YouTube. Although, it’s definitely a difficult watch.
- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
WOD’s a pretty open-minded place, yeah?
