[World Record] UV Fast Speedrun of Alien Vendetta Map 26 in 14:55
71I KNEW IT WAS POSSIBLE! My goal was just to get under 16 minutes, but I managed to get under 15 instead! That took many hours of attempts (and many deaths), but I finally pulled through the entire level with a fast pace and very few mistakes. Also, this is the first time I ever beat a time by the legendary Tatsurd-cacocaco; I'm very happy with this result.
This map is, by far, Alien Vendetta's most cruel level - the result of packing nearly 1000 enemies in this rather small map. Playing this with fast monsters? That's just adding insult to injury. There are a million ways to die in this level, even if you're playing it casually or doing safe strats, let alone with an actual speedrun route.
As for the route, I used mostly the one from [Tatsurd-cacocaco, 2013], with a few changes of my own to make the run faster, and more predictable (i.e. safer). Namely, after the first invulnerability, I went quickly in the teleporter to the top area with revenants and archviles, to have more time to kill more monsters from above, before jumping back down. Then, at to kill the 3 cyberdemons at the red door, I resorted to strafing slower in order to fit in 2 BFG shots before getting cover behind the side walls; this was risky, but saved a few seconds. To survive the GOD DAMN FORSAKEN blue room... I started strafing just at the side of the entry door, to have more time before rotating back into the door, because the monsters teleporting there would most frequently form an impassable barricade; and I also strafed slowly when far away from monsters and projectiles to make the rotation even slower while waiting for the door to open. Also, after going up the lift to the room full of imps, I decided not to waste time going back down for cells, and killed all the revenants with rockets instead. Finally, after clearing the central room, I skipped the SR50 jump trick to the blue armor to save time, because there's another blue armor just behind the red door anyway.
