World's First! Solving the Free Me 7 by Joseph Turner (spoilers) - so much fun!
23This should be the world's first puzzle solve for the highly sought after Free Me 7 Puzzle by Joseph Turner.
Free Me 7 is a disassembly puzzle by Joseph Turner released in 2021. The puzzle was actually designed for 2018 around Christmas time yet it was delayed until this day. Joe’s puzzles have been highly sought after and very difficult to obtain. His Free Me 5 and Free Me 8 puzzles both won the Jury Honourable Mention Award in IPP 2017 and 2020 respectively and many puzzlers are still trying to find ways to get their hands on those puzzles.
I was very lucky to be able to purchase this from Joe himself, and did not think twice when I received his email asking me if I am interested to buy it.
With Joe’s consent, in this video I will share my solve of this puzzle with you, to experience the ingenuity of Joe’s design. I have also shared my guess of the mechanism, which is later confirmed to be correct by Joe.
You can also treat this as a solution video, or how to solve the Free Me 7 from scratch and putting it together again.
The puzzle is not extremely difficult, but I find that one of the steps are really devious which took me quite a while to figure out. It didn’t take me very long to free the coin, which I consider myself being lucky only. The fun really started when I tried to figure out the mechanism, and trying my conjecture to see if its right or not.
This is an exceptional mechanical puzzle which uses a rather simple idea, which I really appreciate, yet using the simple idea multiple times with a slight twist makes the whole puzzle challenging yet achievable.
After solving this puzzle makes me want to try out the other Free Me puzzles, but again they are very difficult to come by, or just very expensive. Will be grateful if any kind puzzlers are willing to lend it to me for a weekend or two to let me try it out and make a video out of it… :)
