WTF?! Wednesday #22 - Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool (SNES/Genesis)
I won't lie - games like this were the prime example our staff thought of when were debating about starting 'WTF?! Wednesday'...
For every AAA or AA game that has graced consoles since video games became mass media, we've been given simply cheap attempts to coax customers into subscribing to something that had nothing to do with gaming.
In 1992, someone at the Frito-Lay snack food company managed to convince their boss, who convinced their boss, who convinced THEIR boss, that they needed a video game to feature their newest and most popular mascot - Chester Cheetah - for one of their worst snack foods - Cheetos.
So what we got was a game that looked and functioned like something a first-year programming student might come up with.
Still...'Chester Cheetah: Too Cool to Fool' has one thing going for it. You'd indeed have to be a massive fool to have dropped any amount of money on it at a game store, either in 1992 or in 2024.
