(Continued) The whine rises beyond audible and a car explodes in the parking lot. Windows shatter. Everyone ducks. When they look back at the Gill Man, he's holding an egg like metallic object above his head -- he wants them to see it. It's as big as a fist, a red line running through its centre. The line is glowing, pulsating. The whine from the Deep One's mutilated chest comes on again.

"He's bluffing!" says Betty after a momentary pause. Yet nobody moves. Then the Gill Man starts slowly going backwards -- one webbed-finger-step at at time. The whine rises beyond audible. Another car explodes as Betty is diving towards the Gill Man. Aiming for his arm, Betty lands short -- right at the Gill Man's feet. The Gill Man looks more surprised than alarmed by Betty's move but it doesn't last. He is greeted by a chair to the face. It hits harder than the bottle did earlier. The sonic pulser drops to the floor and rolls off towards the counter. It goes through the hole made by the Deep One and stops next the barmen dying against the wall.

The Gill Man spins around and tries to run in panic. Betty grabs his ankle and stabs him in the green calf. Gill Man shrieks in pain and fear. Betty bites his foot. Rest of the barflies move in.

The barman rolls on top of the sonic pulser. "I got this, guys," he whispers. "I got this." The barman closes his eyes. "I got this."

The explosion kills everyone in the room.

In the can, Fred the construction worker has a bowel movement for the first time in three days. He is weeping.
