X-Com: Terror From The Deep #4: Weird Drunk Uncles
A Gill Man and a Deep One walk into a bar. Gill Man is carrying a sonic rifle and an empty bottle. The Deep One seems visibly unarmed. They walk up to the barman and Gill Man puts an empty whiskey bottle on the counter. He points at it and looks at the barmen. They stare at each other for a moment. The Gill Man repeats the gesture, looks back at the barman. The Deep One just stands there, his gaze falling flatly on the world in front of it, no focus. If anything, he seems to be on a stand-by -- not really alive, not really dead. The barman finally comes to and nods. "Sure", he says quietly. He's dripping in sweat but doesn't yet know it. The few unlucky patrons in the bar are shitting themselves. Betty, the part-time hooker slowly pulls a switchblade out of her right boot but drops it on the floor. The visitors do not notice. She quickly grabs it. A man in a cowboy hat finally remember to swallow the beer in his mouth. It goes down like sandpaper. There's a construction worker in the can taking a dump. His name is Fred. Fred's been constipated for almost three days now.
The barman briefly, and with visible terror, turns his back on the aliens to get some whiskey from the shelf behind him. The Gill Man puts down his sonic rifle on the counter and turns his head to look at the patrons for the first time. The barman chucks the Jack Daniels at him, hits the Gill Man on the head. As the Gill Man stumbles backwards, trying not to fall over, the barman snatches the sonic rifle, points it at the Gill Man and tries to shoot. But there is no trigger. Or at least what a human would call a trigger. There's a combination of three holes of different sizes where a trigger should be. The barman starts fingering them in panic. "Fuck, fuck, FUCK!" his hands trembling
The Gill Man, frozen in his balancing pose, throws a look at the Deep One and immediately a sound vaguely reminiscent of ancient camera flash charging is emitted from its chest. As the pitch rises, the Deep One picks up his pseudo-trunk and points it at the barman. He's eyes start to glow burgundy red. (To be continued).
