XB1X Star Wars Battlefront 2 G86, 1P gameplay Instant Action on Outpost Delta, Tauntaun Rider!
For the first time, I play as a Tauntaun Rider. It felt like a different way to play! There are things that one need to be aware of however. Vid timeline:
(0:00) Intro.
(4:26) Tauntaun Rider.
(18:37) Tauntaun Rider.
(26:22) Tauntaun Rider.
I play as:
First player: Rebel Alliance Tauntaun Rider.
Blaster: ?
Abilities: "Head Strike", Lead by Example, Barrage Launcher.
Boost Cards: N/A.
Passive Abilities: "Sense of Smell".
Tauntauns have both good and bad points. It can be a little disorienting when climbing into one for the first time. Of course, they are unique to Hoth. And only regular troops can manhandle them..
No Battle Points are required to get them. Looks like about 5 or 6 appear already on the battlefield. That means the Empire has access to them as well, despite them having the AT-ST available. But because the AI in Instant Action Supremacy can't handle the creatures, I decided to enable 1 AT-ST to balance things out, this time around.
Turned out, all one's abilities and blaster are replaced once mounted. If one keeps a careful eye on heat levels, the blaster pistol can be good at short to mid ranges. I thought it was pretty fun to use it in combination with "Head Strike" and Barrage Launcher. The latter being the same as the one available to the Heavy Class. But while here it more difficult to aim, it recharges faster. I can imagine the constant bombardment a squad of 2 or 3 Tauntaun Riders can lay down.
The final ability turned out to be rather unique, if useless in this particular scenario. Lead by Example, gives out a Battle Points boost to all nearby friendlies upon activation.
Tauntauns also have a Passive Ability which allows them to pinpoint nearby enemies on radar, and on-screen via red outline.
The weakness of these creatures is that they can get bogged down in difficult terrain. I heard, this is more due to design. The Tauntaun model's footprint apparently features produting boxes that when in interaction with terrain, slows the player down. Fortunately, the Tauntaun's jump is big enough to allow it to go over irregularities. Mainly those passages that litter Hoth. I did had some issues with those little roads.
But all in all, it was a fun ride!
