XB1X Star Wars Battlefront 2 G91, 1P gameplay Instant Action on Pipeline Junction West, STAP!
In this Instant Action match I casted caution into the wind as I hopped on board a STAP to see how I can disrupt and harass the enemy! Vid timeline:
(0:00) Intro.
(9:50) STAP.
I play as:
First Player: Separatist STAP (Single Trooper Aerial Platform).
Blaster: Twin Blaster Cannons.
Abilities: Motion Scan, Laser Barrage, Heat Sinks.
Boost Cards: Reinforced Hull, Speeder Offensive Upgrade, Speeder System Upgrade.
Passive Abilities: N/A.
The first thing I had to tell myself for choosing to concentrate on playing with a Speeder is that I'm coming in to disrupt and harass rather than to destroy. This isn't like any of the Walker units to include the Tauntaun. Otherwise, I'll lose my cool.
Speeders in this game are notorious for being difficult to control, especially when it comes to aiming. Having said that, the Separatist STAP is the best of the bunch, as it is the smallest of such vehicles available in the game, and can hover the highest.
I when for Geonosis since it's the most open of all prequel maps. I figured, all Command post would be within easy and quick reach, making this map a good location for testing.
That meant I had to take Reinforced Hull, as I was expecting to get shot from multiple angles more often than not.
Armament wise, Laser Barrage is the STAP's saving grace here. And I'm guessing that would be the same case for the other Speeders if they have that too. By choosing Speeder Defensive Upgrade one gets to make that more deadly. I was thinking of choosing to unleashed that ability in strafing maneuvers. But it quickly became apparent it was best to fire it from a fixed location in anticipation of enemy movement. I felt that patience managed rewarded me with a few kills.
Otherwise, trying to zero in on enemy troop units with the normal Twin Blaster Cannons's fire was quite difficult as expected, even with Speeder Offensive Upgrade backing up my Heat Sinks. Therefore, it would be better to use it against large targets such as Tanks and Walkers. Taking down Squad Shields would be good too I guess. Unlike the AI in Arcade, Bots here do Combat Rolls. And that makes things even more frustrating.
Finally, we have the Motion Scan which I thought it was next to useless due to it's short range. Turned out the Motion Scan found on the small Walker has better range. I thought that needed to be the other way around. The STAP is more of a scout vehicle. So it should have a better scan than the more durable and heavily armed small Walker.
But anyways, as others have noted, I too now think playing as the Droids is a much harder affair that with the Clones. And this appears to apply on all Prequel map. Have not noticed nor heard of something like that happening with the other two Eras.
